It is recommended that program participants have basic knowledge of Spanish; the AFS organization provides access to a Spanish language course before departure.
- It is challenging to find host families for young people with dietary restrictions. Spanish people typically include meat products in their meals.
- Spain is a large country with five official languages – Catalan, Galician, Basque, the Aranese dialect, and Spanish.
In schools, in addition to Spanish, students also learn the language of the specific region.
Each region has its own traditions, foods, and drinks.
