The participant should be open to diversity, including different cultures, traditions, and customs, and be willing to embrace and respect them.

Before departing for the exchange year, the participant must take the ELTIS English language test at the AFS Latvia office, which includes listening and speaking sections.

The prospective participant must be able to represent their country while taking part in the programme.

Participants should be prepared to take part in their American host family’s daily life, help with household chores, and attend school.

The participant should have good communication skills. Both the participant and their parents must understand that the United States is a country with many different cultures and people from diverse political and religious backgrounds.
